Planning a Maldives expedition

Advice · Planning Guide

Plan it right, then relax

Everything worth knowing before you book — timing, packing, transfers and the honest advice we give every guest.

Timing

When to come

There is good fishing and island weather year-round; the two monsoons just change the flavour. December to April is drier and calmer — ideal for first-timers, families and camping. May to November is greener and windier, with superb windows for serious fishing. If you have a target species, tell us first: we will recommend dates honestly rather than sell you the wrong week.

Book multi-day expeditions 4–8 weeks ahead so we can secure islands, guesthouses and crew. Day charters can often be arranged at short notice.

Packing

What to bring

Sun & sea

Reef-safe sunscreen, polarised sunglasses, a hat that stays on at speed, light long sleeves, swimwear and a dry bag for phones and cameras.

Comfort

Soft-soled shoes for the boat, sandals for shore, a light rain shell in the wet season and standard seasickness tablets if you are unsure of your sea legs.

Leave it to us

Rods, tackle, snorkel gear, safety kit, camping equipment, drinking water and meals are all provided. Serious anglers are welcome to bring their own setups.

Logistics

Getting to us

You land at Velana International Airport (MLE). Depending on your base, the onward leg is a domestic flight, seaplane or speedboat — when you enquire, we map the smoothest route and can arrange transfers case by case. On multi-day programs, all local transfers are included.

We also recommend travel insurance that covers boat travel and water activities — standard practice for any sea-based holiday.

Next Step

Send your brief and we will reply with three tailored options — Essential, Signature and Full Adventure.
